Yarn Along

Happily joining Ginny and the gang over at Small Things for this week's Yarn Along, having taken a little breather from my computer ; ) badly needed every now and then, no?
This was the first knitting project I did with class 1 when they'd just learned to knit.
Inspired by Linda's pattern over at the lovely Natural Suburbia.

The children were very proud indeed of their sewing books and could hardly wait to take them home to share : )

I finished reading The Horse Whisperer...such an engaging story.
Though I had a hard time with the ending, I found myself having grown very attached to the characters and their fate : )

I look forward to checking out all your knits and your reads. And for the Yarn Alongers who wanted to see the painted bellycast I've been busy finishing, you'll see it in my previous post. Thanks for all the lovely comments on that and for stopping by today x M

  1. I think I need to plan one of those with my kiddos as well as the Girl Scout troop I lead

  3. Thanks girls, it's an ideal project as it is simply a rectangle, but then they get to transform it into something really special and useful.

  4. I like the transformation idea - a simple rectangle put to good use! Wish I could visit your class too.

  8. What fantastic beginner projects. I have to wonder if each student is keeping their own, or gifting them.
    Thanks for sharing

    1. Thanks Natalie, they all want to keep them! And use them for future sewing endeavours, I think it makes them feel quite grown-up to own their own collection of pins and needles too ; )

  9. So sweet, I love the sewing books and the belly cast is absolutely gorgeous! I have two belly casts sitting around waiting to be painted. One from 8 weeks ago and one from 4 years ago. I love how her hand was cast on her belly, cool idea.

  13. Gorgeous, I love these, I look forward as does Madeleine to make one of these. I have been using my grannies one, which is also very special, though its a plastic cover with a pic of the lake district- a souvenir.
Nice to be back, and thnaks for your sweet welcome xx

  14. Yes Mia, Sean was very proud and very excited to bring home his sewing book, and I too am very proud of him. Thank you for guiding him in handwork and making it fun. Wed and Fri's start with a "Yes, it's handwork today!" from him. It's been years since I read The Horse Whisperer and yes I was disappointed with the end, but couldn't put the book down...lovely read. Later
