Yarn Along
Happily joining Ginny and the gang over at Small things for this week's Yarn Along.
I've been holding on to a lot our glass jars from the kitchen to re-use for storage in the studio and handwork room at school. Upcycling is an idea I love playing with these days. I couldn't find a pattern for a jar cover that I loved, so thought I'd try my hand at making it up as I went. Thinking it would be a great project for the children at school to store their crochet hooks and pencils and all. I don't know why this colour combination captivates me so, I love the retro feel of it.
I finished reading The Knitting Circle by Ann Hood. I've mixed feelings about it... the idea of a contemporary story that has the act of knitting as its centre thrills me, and the belief that knitting can be a healing practise, I love all that. The story did have glimmers of honesty and authenticity but overall I found it very contrived. Definitely an easy read though.
What's in your work basket this week..? I look forward to browsing through. Thanks for stopping by : ) x M
I'm mad about crocheting covers for jars...my husband thinks I'm bonkers!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet idea for jars. I have been saving all my glass jars too, especially as so many things now come in plastic! Have a happy day!
ReplyDeleteYour jar cover is very cheery. Love the crochet hooks in there too - mine ended up on the floor as they have been stored in a plastic bag for too long!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the hooky fun.
I've been looking around for some crafty storage solutions and this looks perfect, thanks x
ReplyDeleteLove the cozy. It jazzes that jar up nicely!
ReplyDeleteI shared a jar that I covered in crocheted yarn, too: www.thescrumptiouslife.blogspot.com ♥ I'm also using it to hold my knitting needles and crochet hooks! I do love upcycling.
ReplyDeleteLooks good! I too hold onto glass jars because you never know when you'll need a thousand of them to hold a few items. Seriously, I need to get rid of some. I like the cozy idea very much.
ReplyDeleteI love that jar cover. I never thought of doing that. I read Knitting Circle a while back and found it kind of depressing. It's a true story and I was compelled to read it because the author lives 10 minutes away from me. Maybe that's why it felt so depressing and real to me. Overall I did like it, and yes, it was a great quick read.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea to spiff up those upcycled jars with a cozy. You know that color combo reminds me of those ice bars you can get on ice cream trucks. They are red, white and blue and I think they are called Firecrackers or something like that.
