Yarn Along
And so it is that I find myself knitting lambs
something I never imagined myself doing ; )
in preparation for the next handwork project for class 1. The knitting of them is a pleasure, but my,
the stuffing and sewing may be tricky for little hands at first. It was for mine!
I do love this book:
Out walking in the fields behind our house we happened upon this little scene.
I was deeply charmed, and it put me in mind of an Elsa Beskow story
where the old women gnomes of the forest
wash the gnome beards and hang them out on branches to dry : )
Happily joining Ginny and the gang over at Small Things for this week's Yarn Along.
I've got two big projects going on these days, one involving wool the other involving plaster.
It's been so busy I've not had the chance to post about them here. But I shall
so watch this space!
Thanking you for your visit xM
Those lambs are so cute! I love the last picture - were you tempted to take the "beards" home and try to spin them into yarn?!
ReplyDeleteHey thanks, what was really tempting was to take them home and make tiny little gnomes to wear them, something I have been known to do in the past ; ) x
DeleteI must say that the story of the gnomes beards is cute! Poor sheep though, trying to get to greener pastures and having their hair brushed off...
DeleteAND your sheep...perfect for spring!!!
such cute little lambs, I imagine stuffing the small parts was quite tricky. I love that last photo! - I grew up in Wales nr the Preseli mountains and this picture reminds me of so many walks that I took with my parents.
ReplyDeleteThe lambs are just adorable! Yes, I can imagine how tricky it was to stuff their little legs, but it looks like it was worth it.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the book recommendation. The wee one here is still a little young for knitting, but I want to be ready when the time comes! '
I hope you have a lovel yarn along day.
I love the little lambs! I always find the stuffing and sewing of little projects takes almost as long (if not longer!) as knitting them up!!
ReplyDeleteYour wee lambs are adorable!!
ReplyDeleteJust had to smile when that picture popped up of the lambs!! Adorable!
ReplyDeleteWhen we were in Shetland, one of the women in our group gathered all those "gnome beards" and spun the wool and made everyone on the trip minisocks for their holiday trees. It's my favorite ornament. (Had not heard that gnome-beard story before!!!!)
I love your lambs, they really are cute!
ReplyDeleteAnd the Elsa Beskow story sounds lovely too :D
Oh, the lambs turned out just lovely! I had the same problem with the squirrels I made...easy peasy to knit, but my oh my did I have a hard time stuffing them...in fact, I have one all finished and ready to stuff and it has been that way since mid-january. I hope your class likes them.
ReplyDeleteAw, the lambs are adorable! And the fleece caught there reminds me of the old Psyche myth, and her gathering the fleece from the rams of the gods after they'd left . . .
ReplyDeleteOooh that sounds intriguing Jessica, I'd like to read that, thanks!
DeleteHow precious! I want some, too! Oh yes, I can just imagine how difficult they are to stuff. I'm too afraid to knit anything so teensy. Sounds like a lovely book.
ReplyDeleteThe little lambs are sweet as well as the gnome beards story! :)
ReplyDeleteThose lambs are cute and that story make me want to go hunt for some gnomes beards.
ReplyDeleteOh, how I love those lambs!, and love the story- we often come across similar "beards"- that story will tickle our kiddies fancy no end!!
ReplyDeleteLove Elsa; we have that book. I love your lambs too. Wow you are so talented! Thanks for the book recommendation too. I think my 7yo son wants to start knitting, and I want it to be a good/fun experience. Those beards you found are delightful-so magical. You have a beautiful places to walk-inspiring!
ReplyDeletexo,
Ang (peach coglo)
as cute as the little skippidity spring lambs themselves. Beautiful Mia xx
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sheep. I admire you teaching knitting to litttle ones. Maybe I should try your book. I love the idea of gnome beards being put out to dry. I shall share that story with my children.
ReplyDeletefinding gnome beards on a walk sounds just like something out of a book. i hope you do make something out of them, lovely. and your sheep, so so cute. i can imagine they might be a little difficult for small hands, but any imperfections would just add to the charm. is the book from ireland? i've not seen it here before.
ReplyDeletehave fun with your big projects mia! xxx lori
Thanks Lori, always lovely to have you visit : ) The book hails from England, from Wynstones Press and I cannot recommend highly enough!
DeleteBeautiful, Mia! I am looking forward to give this lovely knitted lamb a home - I don't think my girl is going to let you hang onto it after it is finished at handwork lesson!;) xxx J
