Yarn Along

And so it is that I find myself knitting lambs
something I never imagined myself doing ; )
in preparation for the next handwork project for class 1. The knitting of them is a pleasure, but my,
the stuffing and sewing may be tricky for little hands at first. It was for mine!
I do love this book:

A First Book of Knitting for Children

Out walking in the fields behind our house we happened upon this little scene.
I was deeply charmed, and it put me in mind of an Elsa Beskow story
where the old women gnomes of the forest
wash the gnome beards and hang them out on branches to dry : )

Happily joining Ginny and the gang over at Small Things for this week's Yarn Along.
I've got two big projects going on these days, one involving wool the other involving plaster.
It's been so busy I've not had the chance to post about them here. But I shall
so watch this space!
Thanking you for your visit xM

  1. Those lambs are so cute! I love the last picture - were you tempted to take the "beards" home and try to spin them into yarn?!

    1. Hey thanks, what was really tempting was to take them home and make tiny little gnomes to wear them, something I have been known to do in the past ; ) x

    2. I must say that the story of the gnomes beards is cute! Poor sheep though, trying to get to greener pastures and having their hair brushed off...
      AND your sheep...perfect for spring!!!

  2. such cute little lambs, I imagine stuffing the small parts was quite tricky. I love that last photo! - I grew up in Wales nr the Preseli mountains and this picture reminds me of so many walks that I took with my parents.

Thanks so much for the book recommendation. The wee one here is still a little young for knitting, but I want to be ready when the time comes! '
I hope you have a lovel yarn along day.

  4. I love the little lambs! I always find the stuffing and sewing of little projects takes almost as long (if not longer!) as knitting them up!!

  6. Just had to smile when that picture popped up of the lambs!! Adorable!
When we were in Shetland, one of the women in our group gathered all those "gnome beards" and spun the wool and made everyone on the trip minisocks for their holiday trees. It's my favorite ornament. (Had not heard that gnome-beard story before!!!!)

  8. Oh, the lambs turned out just lovely! I had the same problem with the squirrels I made...easy peasy to knit, but my oh my did I have a hard time stuffing them...in fact, I have one all finished and ready to stuff and it has been that way since mid-january. I hope your class likes them.

  9. Aw, the lambs are adorable! And the fleece caught there reminds me of the old Psyche myth, and her gathering the fleece from the rams of the gods after they'd left . . .

  10. How precious! I want some, too! Oh yes, I can just imagine how difficult they are to stuff. I'm too afraid to knit anything so teensy. Sounds like a lovely book.

  16. Beautiful sheep. I admire you teaching knitting to litttle ones. Maybe I should try your book. I love the idea of gnome beards being put out to dry. I shall share that story with my children.
